As a tribute to one of our most precious and celebrated holidays, no one says it better than my dear mother Vernon Sanchez, THE VOICE OF THE EVANGEL: ENJOY DJH TRUTH
THE VOICE OF THE EVANGEL
MY LITTLE CHILDREN, LET US NOT LOVE IN WORD, NOR IN TONGUE, BUT IN DEED AND IN TRUTH. I JOHN 3;18
December highlights Christian’s most celebrated holiday of love and giving, honoring our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave His life for us all. So, at Christmas time, we exchange greeting cards, gifts, and fellowship with family and friends, including special visits to the lonely, the needy and neglected in hospitals and penal institutions.
February also highlights love and sharing as we celebrate St. Valentine’s Day, which is of Christian origin also. For St. Valentine’s Day was established by the early church in memory of the heroic death of a man named Valentine, who was beheaded on a Roman pagan altar because he refused to renounce Jesus Christ. This event occurred in the year A.D. 320 Born of a wealthy Roman family, Valentine was converted to Christianity at an early age, around the year A.D. 240, during the era when the degenerate Roman emperor, Claudius II, was persecuting the church, arresting , torturing and killing Christians for entertainment.
Valentine, using his wealthy family’s advantage, began a “prison ministry of mercy.” His mission was to visit the prisons and “smuggle” in food and small gifts to Christian martyrs. Each gift was accompanied by a “little love note” encouraging them in the love of Jesus. For this he was eventually arrested and martyred (beheaded) in A.D. 270.
SO YOU SEE.. . JESUS IS THE REASON EVEN FOR VALENTINE’S DAY.…A DEAR SOUL DIED FULFILLING HIS COMMANDMENT “ TO VISIT HIM IN PRISON. VISIT THE SICK, FEED THE HUNGRY.”.. “
“LET US NOT BE WEARY IN WELL DOING.” ON VALENTINE‘S DAY,….
“ LET ALL THAT YOU DO BE DONE IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS..”.
